PDRN is a fragment of DNA, usually from salmon.
Reviews of PDRN in wound healing report that it works through the adenosine A2A receptor and a salvage pathway that recycles DNA building blocks (Galeano et al., Pharmaceuticals 2021; Colangelo et al., Regen Med 2020). In those studies it was linked to:
- Cell migration and growth in wound-healing models.
- New blood vessel formation in wound-healing models.
- Lower inflammation in wound-healing models.
- Shorter healing time in wound studies.
Most of this evidence comes from injected or wound-applied PDRN, not cosmetics. The open question for skincare is whether PDRN applied to intact skin reaches the layers where it acts.
There is little published clinical research on PDRN in cosmetic toners, serums or masks. Treat product claims about firmness or fine lines as unproven.
